It is immoral to talk of success; that using everything for personal gain, but, in art, it works out quite nicely: Success is having blue helmets posted outside your exhibitions: On average, nine failed artworks lurk behind every successful one. ‘Did that take you nine attempts to write?’ You know you have made it when at your exhibitions you are forced to call the police to move the invitees along: Successes and failures are partners in the creative crime, so love all your art equally. ‘What if I put the favouritism on the tips of my fingers, dab it on, and then run off?’ Success is the reward of having survived failure.
