In his lived-in landscapes, Tom shares his fascination with all those aspects of landscape, especially Cornwall’s landscape, that suggest a human presence. From field patterns to ancient sites, from clusters of buildings to well-worn paths, the inspiration for this collection of paintings and drawings is wide-ranging. Another lived-in aspect of these paintings and drawings is that in them the artist has lingered over colour mixtures, paint layering, brush and finger marks. His hope is that this involvement with his materials has coaxed a feeling of life into these pieces, bringing a lived-in quality to them which, in its vividness, is a feature of the hand-made image.
