Facing a stark white blank canvas can make even the hardest artists tremble with fear!
Have no fear a solutions near! Few artists will paint directly onto a white canvas without first having a well defined language and path mapped out.
The white canvas until completely covered will always be the lightest light in your painting and will throw off all other colour and tonal relationships.
The most common artist practice is to add a thin wash of neutral middle tone colour over the canvas before painting. If laid in with broad strokes with a large brush, this layer can add interest and nuance where left untouched.
