I do abstract work in colored pencil on Bristol paper. I first produce a smaller sketch of just the boundary lines. I produce some of the decisions with a calculator random number generator. I use 18 colors – cool, greys, and warm. I use scraps with color patches and a color code to identify the colors of each area and record just the code on the sketch. I make some of the color decisions with random numbers. I have a craft table, a t-square, a 45 degree triangle, a 12-inch ruler, a compass, and a circle template. When a pencil gets down to three inches I discard it and buy another, but I keep two of each color so the work isn’t held up.
